Regional Group

It is a regional platform created to promote the ethical, inclusive, and sustainable development of artificial intelligence. It emerged from the Montevideo Declaration during the Second Ministerial Summit in 2024 and seeks to implement the 2024-2025 Roadmap, an action plan designed to address the ethical challenges of AI in the region.

The Montevideo Declaration, approved by ministers and high-level authorities, establishes a regional approach to AI governance that consolidates the Working Group on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence in Latin America and the Caribbean, providing support from UNESCO and CAF through its technical secretariat for the construction and continuation of this regional process.

In this context, Uruguay assumed leadership of the AI Ethics Working Group, taking over from Chile to ensure the continuity of the initiatives planned in the Roadmap.

At the second Ministerial Summit on AI Ethics, the region has consolidated its leadership in the global conversation on AI, and at UNESCO, we are proud to have contributed to its creation and to continue supporting members in this process.”
